The family of Howard Mitchinson have paid tribute to a man who was very much involved in his local community. The body of Mr Mitchinson, 54, of High Street was found in a garden of a holiday home following a major search in the Harlech area over the weekend.
Mr Mitchinson grew up in Crosby, Cumbria and attended Lancaster Grammar School where he excelled academically and in sport. He attended Oxford University where he studied economics and went on to become a Chartered Accountant. He was also invited for a football trail with Preston North End and was a national champion in sailing.
After university he became an insolvency practitioner and then moved to business management, culminating as Financial Director at Lamborghini UK.
When he moved to Harlech he invested in a timber yard, started a wood working and craft workshop and opened a shop on Harlech High Street.
In 2003 he suffered a major stroke, leaving him with severe disabilities but he worked hard to achieve a high quality of life. He remained involved in various committees in Harlech as well as providing business advice and was recently most proud of his role in supporting the Lottery funding bid to save the Harlech swimming pool.
He is survived by his children, Hayley and Luke, his mother Dorothy, sister Ann and Pat, his wife. A public funeral will be held at St Tanwgs Church, High Street, Harlech on Friday 4th February at 1.00pm. The family have requested no flowers but for donations to the Mountain Rescue Service.
