Hate crimes are criminal actions intended to harm or intimidate people because of their race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc. Whether it's a crime based on ethnicity, race or sexual orientation, hate crimes are an insult to humanity. We all need to remember - all human beings are born free and entitled to all the rights and freedoms without distinction of any race, color, religion, sex, nationality, etc.

Hate doesn’t bring a peaceful solution to any situation, which I realized after I became a victim of a hate crime because of the September 11, 2001 World Trade Center tragedy. This single incident changed my entire life and helped me to realize that hate only brings fear, misery, resentment and disaster into human lives. It creates obstacles to healthy human growth, which, in turn, diminishes society as a whole.

In order to live in a better and peaceful world, we need to break the cycle of hate and violence. I believe, forgiveness is the best policy, which helps to break this cycle. I also strongly believe that there are important reasons why God spared my life. I feel driven to bring an awarness of -

hate crimes to others. Hate crimes of ALL types. To educate those who may be as ignorant as Mark Stroman (who shot me in the face, and killed two other innocent people) and raise a consciousness among people that hating others can never bring lasting peace and satisfaction.

I forgave Mark Stroman many years ago. I believe he was ignorant, and not capable of distinguishing between right and wrong, otherwise he wouldn’t have done what he did. I am requesting that Mark Stroman’s death penalty be commuted to life in prison with no parole. Please help me educate and raise consciousness by signing a petition to the Chair of the Board of Pardons and Paroles, asking for Mr. Stroman’s death penalty to be commuted to life in prison without parole.

Clemency is an important concept never used by the Texas death penalty apparatus. In 232 death sentences, clemency has been recommended just once by the state pardons board, only to be rejected by Governor Rick Perry. Mark Stroman is waiting on death row right now. His execution date is July 20. Will those who have power of life and death in Texas take 'clemency', gathering dust in the window, clean it off, and use it for once?

We, the survivor and the victims family members, don’t want Mark Stroman to die on our names! We are requesting everyone to do us a favor. Please help us by calling and/or sending email (Fax) from today to the Texas board of Pardons and Paroles and the Governor of Texas (Rick Perry). Calling on the Board and the Governor to break the cycle of killing by commuting the death sentence of Mark Stroman.
